KrebsOnSecurity Hit With Near-Record 6.3 Tbps DDoS

Kerbs posted about a recent DDoS attack they experienced, which was massive. Akamai asked Kerbs to get off their defense and Google claimed it was the largest they have ever handled. You can see the full post HERE.

The key points I took away was ““It was the type of attack normally designed to overwhelm network links” … which For most companies, this size of attack would kill them”. This means a threat actor has an effective canon on deck that will likely be used again in the near future. Research is linking this canon to Aisuru botnet, which can be rented out in subscription tiers ranging from 150 dollars per day to 600 dollars per week. This means anybody can reserve and use this canon against a target. The servers behind this could always get taken down but evidence shows DDoS is still a real threat organizations should be prepared for.
