I’ve always been interested in what goes on behind scams. You can search this site for posts where I speak to my research. For example, I have boxes of fake checks where I’ve played along with a scammer to better understand the scam as well as see what type of fake artifacts are shared. HERE is an example of a fake check.
The NYTimes just posted about going even further behind the enemy lines. They sent people to some office spaces within Myanmar showing the workplace for scammers. That post can be found HERE including a video walking through the building. Mark Rober also did a whole thing researching scammers out of India (found HERE). Both of these are super interesting views of what goes on behind the scenes including the people behind it. In many cases, people are kidnapped and forced to do this. Their life is waking up, scamming, eating, and going to bed. If you don’t get results, you are beaten. \
Check out the NY times post. Its eye opening.
